1960. FAO assignment, Tunisia
Tunisia, 1960 - In the Nedjerda valley at El Habibia, an important rice-growing experiment is underway which may eventually make it unnecessary for Tunisia to import rice. The experiment is being carried out with the help of Dr. G. L. Pan, an expert of FAO from China, who has devised a simple method of leaching salt from arable land.
Dr. Pan (left) with Mrs. L. Holderbach, Chief of the Laboratory of the Special Section for studies of Pedology and Hydrology, Tunis, and agronomist J.P. Cointepas, discussing results of a soil analysis.
