MEXICO 1950s. Forestry expert checking the technique used by the men in charge of measuring tree-growth
Mexico. Forestry expert, Mr. Louis Huguet (France) has been in Mexico Since 1951 on a technical assistance assignment for FAO. Attached to the Nacional Financiera, A Mexican Government development agency, his main activities have been concerned with the development of the forest resources of the State of Michoacán. He has drafted plans for the establishment of integrated forest industries; including a pulp and newsprint plant, carried out a detailed forest inventory and prepared a forest management plan. The project is about to enter the construction stage. This photograph shows Ing. Louis Huguet cheeking the technique used by the men in charge of measuring tree-growth. A hollow increment borer is inserted until it reaches the central part, then extracted and a wooden “cigarette” pushed out of its interior. It shows very clearly the growth rings.
