Background Information
Dr. N.G. Ipatenko, a veterinary laboratory expert from U.S.S.R. working at FAO was assigned to Ulan Bator, for the period September 1964-September 1966 to assist the Government of this country in the diagnosis and control of infectious diseases of animals (horses, cattle, yaks and sheep). For a population of just over 1 million people, there are in the area in 1965 nearly 2 million cattle, yaks, 13 million sheep, 700,000 goats, 700,000 camels and 2,400,000 horses.
