The National Center for Organic Agriculture (NCOA) is one of four Agriculture Research and Development Centers (ARDCs) operating under the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MoAL). Located in Yusipang at an elevation of 2,700 meters above sea level, it is approximately a 30-minute drive (13 km) from the capital city, Thimphu. Established in 1969 and inaugurated by the third king of Bhutan, NCOA initially served as a horticulture research and training center. Over the past five decades, it has undergone several institutional changes while maintaining its core mandate of research and development within the Renewable Natural Resources (RNR) sector—supporting farming communities and promoting sustainable development principles.
