Background Information
Project Code: OSRO/SYR/109/CHA Urgent support for returnee and host farmers affected by the crisis and drought-like conditions in Deirez-Zor, Ar-Raqqa, Idleb, Homs, Rural Damascus, and As-Sweida to improve their food and nutrition
Security. Project description: Wheat producers across Syria continue to face challenges preparing for the new season following a poor harvest. Furthermore, vulnerable farmers lack liquidity, access to credit and a reliable source of income, while prices of agriculture inputs continue to increase. FAO, with the support of OCHA, has provided wheat seed to more than 5 747 vulnerable farming families in the governorates of Homs, Hama, Deir Ez-Zor, Ar-raqa, As-Sweida, and Rural Damascus. As the month of June is the harvest season, each farmer is expected to produce an average of 1.5 to 2 tonnes of wheat, which will contribute to the family income, and the surplus will be consumed by the family members.
