Background Information
As part of the project Forests for a sustainable future: educating children, FAO is developing a collection of learning materials (i.e. modules) aimed at increasing forest literacy, or awareness of forests and the need to manage them sustainably. Students will have improved knowledge on forests and will develop adequate skills and capacities to make decisions in favour of their sustainable use. This will be achieved by the development of educational materials based on an interactive, experiential, forest-based learning approach that are developed and piloted in two target countries, Tanzania and the Philippines, and by disseminating the materials and lessons learned in other countries in the region and globally.
