Background Information
The National Command of the Coastguard controls all fishing activities along the national and international coasts and carries out periodic inspections to ensure that the vessels are properly licensed, that the equipment on board complies with all regulations and that the fish is properly labeled and identified when disembarked. From their control center, Coast Guard officers monitor all vessels and investigate cases of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, in accordance with Italian laws and EU regulations.
