Background Information
The islands of the lake Patzcuaro have been a center of the native Purhepecha people who have for generations thrived on fishing as a form of livelihood- the lake supports around 800 fishermen who fish for black sea bass, Patzcuaro chub, trout, perch and white fish or pez blanco (Kurucha Urapiti in Purepecha language) - a sacred endemic species of the lake.
