Background Information

Kenyon has spent 30 years on this ranch, with many years working as a vachero before he was able to lease his own place with his life partner Joan Bell. He runs cattle on this ranch, letting them roam wild until they need to be corralled, the same way most ranching is done in this region. It's a hard life without much financial reward but Tommy loves be in the outdoors with his cattle and horses. He has endured a number of jaguar attacks on his animals over the years. ìIt's terrible losing my animals, 'I spend so much time raising them and looking after them, it's hard to look at their remains in the savannah', says Tommy. Human/jaguar conflict is common in the region, with jaguars preying on ranches for an easy meal. They get shot regularly out here, despite being a protected species. Farmers feel there are not alternatives for them to be protected from jaguars and so often take matters into their own hands.
