Background Information Robbie's dad ran the store before him. He is seen with fridges full of wild deer, capybara, peccary and other wild meat. He has a picture card system for customers of the wild meat available. Robbie says he used to sell as far away as Trinidad but since the financial crisis, much of that market has dried up. He adds that he used to be supplied by a soldier who had access to areas without many people and plenty animals. That man used to bring him over 400 kgs of meat on occasion. Robbie adds that wild meat is a status purchase for many people, and something to be shared socially. It is sold out of people's homes as well as at certain restaurants in Guyana. ìI think there are less animals now than before, with the mining in these areas, there is a lot of hunting to feed the miners. There needs to be more legislation and protection as a result. You have to go much further to hunt now and that is much more expensive.
