OSRO/SYR/003/JPN - Supporting market-oriented agribusiness in Syria
28 April 2021, Al Shieha village, Hama governorate, Syria - Twenty students, six of them are with special needs, aged between six to twelve years old, planted their school's backyard with tomatoes and cucumber seedling, where they have also learned about the importance of healthy nutrition, farming practices and scheduling irrigation. The students will later harvest their produce in June and learn about land preparation to plant eggplants and sweet pepper. This activity will strengthen the student's knowledge and skills to grow food in their house backyards with their parents and families, thanks to FAO, with the support of the government of Japan, for establishing Five school gardens in Rural Damascus and Hama governorates to contribute in increasing food security through having sustainable sources of food.
