Family farming blossoms in the mountains of Venezuela
05 March 2021 - Eliana Alvarado with her husband Pablo Márquez and their two children, Santiago, aged seven, and Moises, aged four.
In a remote Venezuelan agricultural town, Eliana and her family depend on their garden for food and income during the drought, the economic crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The FAO-ECHO project provides seeds, tools, and technical assistance to help Eliana and other farmers in Lara state increase their production, improving their food and nutrition security. The project diversified the crops grown, introducing more vegetables into the mix and therefore into diets. Many vegetable seeds had been too expensive for families to purchase in the past.
