Wheat cultivation in Afghanistan

Wheat is a strategic crop in Afghanistan because of its high consumption rate. FAO supports farmers in producing high-quality wheat products.

Certified wheat seed plays a pivotal role in Afghanistan, benefiting Afghan farmers in numerous ways. Firstly, certified seed ensures higher crop yields and improved quality. By utilizing certified wheat seed, farmers can access varieties that are specifically bred and selected for their adaptability to local conditions, disease resistance, and yield potential. This results in more productive harvests, which are crucial for food security and income generation for farming communities.

Secondly, certified wheat seed helps in the control and prevention of diseases and pests. Certified seed is produced through rigorous processes that involve strict quality control measures, including inspections, testing, and treatment, to ensure that it is free from pests and diseases. This reduces the risk of crop losses and minimizes the need for excessive pesticide use. By using certified seed, farmers can safeguard their fields against detrimental pests and diseases, leading to healthier crops and sustainable agriculture practices.
