Launch of the State of Food and Agriculture report 2017
9 October 2017, Rome--- The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization is calling for a new territorial approach to agriculture and food systems, according to a new report released today. The food agency highlights estimate that by 2020, the global population of people aged 15–24 years is expected to grow by about 100 million to 1.3 billion. And almost all of that increase will take place in sub-Saharan Africa, mostly in rural areas. According to The State of Food and Agriculture 2017 report, targeting policy support and strategically investing in rural areas will be highly critical in countries where industrial and service sector transformations have lagged or stalled. It is noted that this is where demographic growth will see massive numbers of people entering the job market in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, in particular.
