Recognizing outstanding progress in fighting hunger 
16 June 2014, Rome-- In 2013, FAO recognized 38 countries for reducing by half the proportion of people who suffer from hunger by 2015, in keeping with a target set by the first Millennium Development Goal. In 2014, governments continue to fulfill their pledge to eradicate hunger globally. Today 3 countries were recognized for their outstanding progress in the fight against hunger, as the 149th Session of the FAO Council begins (16-20 June 2014). The countries awarded this year are: Chile, China and Morocco. These countries are being recognized because, according to FAO estimates, they have been able to significantly reduce undernourishment in their populations, thus achieving the hunger targets agreed upon either at the 1996 World Food Summit or in the Millennium Declaration in 2000.
