Preparation of a traditional meal by hand-pounding maize grains into meal which is subsequenlty cooked into a maize porridge (nshima). - - Marketing Management Assistance for Food Security: GCPS/ZAM/048/NET. The project is funded by Government of the Netherlands and implemented by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) together with the Zambian Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries. The project is assisting the Zambian Government to bring about a reform in the system of marketing maize and other staples with a view to achieving cost efficient marketing which will in turn lead to food security. It is assisting in the development of a strategy for removal of subsidies, and an orderly transfer from a controlled to a liberalized marketing system for maize in particular and food grains in general. It will also provide advice on the organizational structure required to set up and administer a suitable policy framework and will help to put into place a marketing information system together with an appropriate management information system.
