An FAO project officer identifying disease in rice plants with extension officer and farmer. The diseases are White Herd, caused by Stembarer, and Bacterial Leaf Blight. - - Rural Extension: MOZ/88/009. This rural extension project executed by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is currently active in three provinces of Mozambique, namely Cabo Delgado, Gaza and Inhambane. Together with the Ministry of Agriculture, the FAO project is responsible for the training of agricultural technicians who closely follow the farmers in their work. Seminars also offer the opportunity for implementation and introduction of new production techniques. One of the project's experiments is the production of selected seeds that are exchanged by the farmers for soap and oil. In the initial phases of the project, closer contact with the people is established in order to better understand their customs and traditions and know their problems and needs.
