Background Information
Rural Poultry Improvement. A joint project between FAO/UNDP and the Government of Bangladesh was set up in January 1983 for duration of five years, with an allocation of USD 2.3 million. The objectives of the project are to plan/prepare the most effective infrastructure and most effective method required for a nation-wide genetic upgrading programme of village chickens, to upgrade the technical know-how of the officers of the Directorate of Livestock Services and to train private vaccinators in the selected districts, to plan a national poultry vaccine distribution and inoculation system capable of reaching the villages and implement this plan in the selected districts, to improve the poultry husbandry courses in the existing training programmes and to assist the government's applied poultry research programme in all their farms.
