Background Information
- Artisan Fisheries Development. The Government of Grenada's Ministry of Fisheries is improving the living standards of artisan fishermen and their families by providing direct help through an Artisan Fisheries Development Project. The project aims to develop a modern fishing industry providing low-cost food protein and to benefit about 2000 families (about
11 000 people, almost 10% of the total population) engaged in artisan fishing along the coastal zone of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique Islands. Project components include developing and improving marketing and fishing gear centres, credit funds and helping fish vendors and boat builders with technical assistance and extension services for improving fishing and market technologies.
